DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) - A Duncan woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a Wal-Mart employee and attempting to steal $40 worth of products.

Duncan police were called to an apartment on Friday, September 14 after receiving a call for a missing person. The man at the apartment said his fiance, Amber Spanhanks, had left the previous night to travel to Chickasha with two children to see her mother. The fiance and Spanhanks' mother became concerned when she had not shown up by the next morning.

While taking the report, officers were called to the Wal-Mart in Duncan to investigate a disturbance. One of the people involved in the disturbance was Spanhanks.

After some investigation, it was discovered that Spanhanks had left the previous evening and driven to the Wal-Mart where she had been for almost 12 hours. A Wal-Mart employee accused Spanhanks of attempting to steal multiple items. She told police that when she tried to stop Spanhanks, she was attacked. As police checked surveillance video they reportedly discovered that Spanhanks had not checked on the two children in the vehicle since she arrived the night before.

DHS was called to the scene and the fiance was given custody of the children while officials were investigating.

Spanhanks was taken into custody and charged with petty larceny, assault and battery, child endangerment and public intoxication.
