Altus City Council honors animal advocate

ALTUS, OK (RNN Texoma) - Altus celebrated Alyda Richardson Day on Tuesday.

At the Altus City Council meeting on Tuesday, Alyda Richardson was honored and recognized as an “Animal Advocate and Champion.” They also issued a proclamation proclaiming the day as Alyda Richardson Day.

Richardson has personally fostered and rescued multiple animals from the Altus Animal Shelter. She has organized various events and fundraisers to help animals. She was a founding member of the Altus Area Spay/Neuter Incentive Program in 2012. Because of that program more than 1,000 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered.

She was presented with a plaque engraved with “Alyda Richardson, Animal Advocate and Champion, Altus, Oklahoma 2010-2018”.

Alyda will soon be leaving Altus, to enjoy traveling around the country with her husband and their dogs and cats.
