FORT SILL, OK (RNN Texoma) - Fortunately the weather was not too wintry Friday evening, allowing Fort Sill the chance to hold its annual tree lighting ceremony. Post officials said they had a number of contingency plans in the event of the expected winter storm, but thankfully they were not needed.
Service members, their families and the Lawton-Fort Sill community gathered for Friday’s festivities. They joined in fellowship to welcome in the holiday season.
“It’s all about celebrating community, celebrating the season, enjoying each others' company, a time for reflection and joy for the year to come," said Chief of Staff for Fort Sill FIRES Center of Excellence Col. David Stewart.
Friday’s event featured plenty of other fun activities for families and Santa himself was on hand to meet with the kids.
This year’s tree lighting coincides with Fort Sill’s 150th anniversary.
