LAWTON, OK (RNN Texoma) - The City of Lawton held the first of its community forums regarding the upcoming election Wednesday night.
On January 8th, voters will decide on whether to redirect a portion of funds from the 2016 CIP tax. The funds would go towards improving the city’s IT systems and help develop “shovel-ready” land for incoming businesses.
Wednesday’s meeting was to discuss this proposal with voters, go over the ballot, and talk about what the change would mean for them.
“It’s good for both parties. It’s good for the citizens in that we will be able to provide information as to what the purpose of the vote coming before the citizens, as well as for us to be able to get feedback from the citizens as to what their concerns may be, that we can better answer their questions and make them more informed,” said Lawton City Manager Jerry Ihler.
Officials also held a Q-and-A session to address any concerns or questions.
If you missed Wednesday’s meeting, the city is holding three more public forums this week, with Thursday’s meeting taking place at the Eisenhower High School Library, and Friday’s at the MacArthur High School Auditorium.
A final session will be held next Wednesday at City Hall.
