LAWTON, OK (RNN Texoma) - Some kids in Lawton will have a Christmas meal and several gifts, thanks to area organizations.
Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry along with other Lawton groups spent the afternoon wrapping presents that will be handed out at their annual Christmas dinner.
The founder of Hungry Hearts said volunteers put ribbons and bows on probably over 500 toys and gifts Saturday.
“This is the second year that Hungry Hearts has been able to host the Christmas gift wrapping party," said Adriene Davis, founder of Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry. "All the gifts and presents that you see here will be used for the Christmas meal, just to give a little bit of hope and joy and smiles to those who won’t have any place to go for Christmas, or don’t have any place at all. We have so many that are homeless, and they won’t get anything for Christmas. So, if we can give them two or three gifts, even right down to the little bitty ones, that’s what we’re here for.”
Davis said any gifts that are left over will be taken to local hospitals and shelters for children. She said that everyone is invited to the meal on Christmas day, and that no one should spend the holiday alone. It will be at the First Christian Church in Lawton from 11 to 1. If you are not able to make it out, but would still like a meal, Hungry Hearts will also be delivering food as well.
