LAWTON, OK (RNN Texoma) - Many people walked, cycled, and ran up Mount Scott Saturday. This was all part of a non-profit organization’s way of supporting one another and meeting new people.
Inspire Lawton is a non-profit organization that aims to discover ways to allow people to better themselves with the support of others. Trevel Crawford with Inspire Lawton said they teamed up with The Lawton Grapevine to bring health, awareness, and Lawton together. He said today’s Sleighin Mount Scott event will do just that.
“I believe everybody has some kind of unseen potential, their own strengths, and if you bring them out of their comfort zone, climbing up a mountain, being around a group of strangers and they come out and just kind of push you up a little bit, it makes you open to the idea of being a better person," said Crawford.
Crystina Laffin said she is currently training for a marathon and said this is not her first time going up Mount Scott. She said her favorite part about today is seeing everyone supporting the same cause.
“We’re not doing it for charity, we’re not doing it for recognition, we’re just out here having a good time supporting each other in each individual goal and then the goal as the group Inspire Lawton is to get people in Lawton more involved with each other and just building each other up, instead of everybody tearing each other down," said Laffin.
And like many others, she set a goal.
“My goal for today is to get her to run with me a little bit, run out some energy and make it up the mountain with a smile on my face, and make it down with the rest of these awesome people out here," said Laffin.
This is the third time Inspire Lawton has hosted Sleighin Mount Scott. Crawford said they plan to do this once a month and encourages others to get involved.
