Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, OK (RNN Texoma) - Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation say the annual Elk Hunt on the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge may be affected by the government shutdown if it continues.
They say that if the shutdown continues to Monday, they will reschedule the hunt to the following week. If the shutdown continues to the following week, then they will move it to next year, and for the hunters set to take part, their permits will be valid for the next year’s hunt as well.
Officials with the Friends of the Wichitas say letters were sent to participants to keep them updated on the situation.
Around 100 people took part in last year’s event.
