LAWTON, OK (TNN) - Citizens across the country are taking time out of their day Wednesday to thank law enforcement for the services they provide.
Wednesday is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and folks around Lawton are showing the Lawton Police Department some love, dropping off cards, goody bags and gifts.
Sergeant Timothy Jenkins says its important for police to have a relationship with the community, and he’s grateful to see an outpouring of support. “A lot of times in today’s society, we see police aren’t valued or highly favored like they used to be, so being able to get that thank you or hey, we got your back, we love what you’re doing, it means a lot to us," said Jenkins.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was founded in 2015 to thank officers across the country for the sacrifices they make for their communities.
You can show your support by wearing blue or by shining a blue light on your porch.
