Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Elk Hunt happening despite shut down

WICHITA MOUNTAINS WILDLIFE REFUGE, OK (TNN) - The annual Elk Hunt at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is happening next week even though the partial government shutdown continues.

David Farmer, the Acting Wichita Mountains Refuge Manager, says the refuge will be open the next 30 days using appropriated funds.

He says they’ll have minimal staff, but things like the visitors center will open back up on Monday. Their hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.
