WAURIKA, OK (TNN) - A Jefferson County man is being held on $1,000,000 bond after authorities say he shot at a Waurika police officer’s home while his children were inside.
According to court documents, Jefferson County deputies and Waurika police were called to a bar in Waurika after receiving reports of a large fight. When officers arrived, at least three people were detained, including Samantha Bryant. Bryant was placed in the back of a officer’s vehicle to be transported to jail. Her husband, Clyde Bryant, then reportedly asked police to talk to his wife before she was transported.
Officers allowed him to speak to his wife and at some point Clyde allegedly told Officer Chris Bayless, “I’ll get you.” Later, Clyde said he wanted to talk to his wife again but officers told him he could not. Bryant then reportedly refused to leave and was intoxicated. A friend arrived and said they would take Bryant home.
Later in the evening, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Pine on reports of shots being fired. When officers arrived they say they heard multiple gunshots coming from Bryant’s home which is across from Officer Bayless' house. Officers say they heard about a dozen shots fired as they arrived at the scene.
Officers evacuated Bayless' home and transported his family, including five kids, to safety. They then made contact with Clyde who said he was in bed but would come out and talk to authorities. As he exited, officers took him into custody without further incident.
After clearing the home, officers searched the back of the officer’s home and found multiple bullet holes and damage to the home and toys in the backyard.
When they searched Bryant's home, they found multiple spent shell casings and shotgun shells in the trash and on the back porch along with two firearms.
Bryant is currently facing two felony charges, including Child Abuse and Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony. More charges could be filed in the case.
According to court documents, a protective order has been issued requiring Bryant to have no contact with Bayless or his wife, along with requiring him to surrender any firearms while the order is in effect.
