Comanche Senior Citizens in need of inancial assistance

LAWTON, OK (TNN) - In 2016, The Senior Nutrition Center in Comanche lost both its state and federal funding. For the local senior citizens it provides meals for, this became a major problem. Each day the center delivers nearly 25 hot meals and since many of the senior citizens live off a tight budget, this added expense isn’t possible for them to pay.

“They can’t afford to buy groceries, let alone eat here so we’re looking for sponsorships that can support a senior on a monthly basis or an annual basis and they would essentially cover the cost to get the meals to them” said Chuck Ralls

On top of those 25 meals, they also cater to almost 50 other Comanche Residents daily. For the center to continue providing these meals, they have to find other outlets for funding.

“Because the donations have fallen off, we’re now having to do mandatory payment, or requiring payment for food service. It’s 3 dollars, it used to be a suggested donation but now they are required to pay” said Ralls

Luckily for the center, one organization in Comanche signed on to help any way they could. Christian Helping Hands, which serves the Comanche residents when they need it most seemed like a match made in heaven for the center.

“We try to be a refuge for anyone with an immediate need in our community. Since we already have a food pantry, it seemed like a natural partner for us to help provide food to the Nutrition Center for the Senior Adults in our community.” said Pamela Dobbins

Workers at The nutrition center know that these meals are often the only meal seniors have a day, and the delivery driver is often their only personal contact so keeping this program up and running is crucial for Comanche and their senior residents. sponsor contact either the Comanche Nutrition Center or Christian Helping Hands.
