LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The community gathered at the Galilee Baptist Church in Lawton Sunday afternoon for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. service.
The service is to celebrate King’s life, legacy, and all that he achieved. There was both an address and a sermon from Pastor Willie Guest, as well as several other speakers, one of them being Mayor Stan Booker.
The President of the Lawton-Fort Sill Interdenominational Ministers Alliance said Sunday’s service is a time to remember the past and look forward to the future.
“What we all can expect is a time of reflection, a time also perhaps of instructions, and a time of just remembering where we came from and where we want to go to," said Bishop John Dunaway, president of LIMA.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday will be observed tomorrow, January the 21st.
Dunaway said in February they will be having an event to commemorate black history month and to remember the activities and actions of Black Americans in our nation.
