Cow mutilated in Comanche County, owner speaks out

Cow mutilated in eastern Comanche County

LAWTON, OK (TNN) - An investigation is underway after a pregnant cow was killed and mutilated near Fletcher.

The Comanche County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the person responsible. The cow’s uterus, milk bag, and right ear were sliced off and taken. It happened sometime Saturday night in to Sunday morning.

“Better hide your ass," said Betty Bessire, owner of the cow. "Don’t let me know who did it.”

Bessire has lived east of Fletcher for over 40 years and says she’s never seen anything this gruesome.

“Someone had to have tranquilized her, and then give her a shot of that stuff that coagulates your blood because there were no bullet holes, no nothing,” she said.

Comanche County Sheriff Kenny Stradley says they’ve investigated similar cases, but none of this magnitude in several years. Bessire says she has an idea of what would lead someone to do this.

“They were getting ready to make a sacrifice to the devil over that Red Moon,” Bessire said. "Anytime you get a bad change in the moon like that you’ll see this stuff come up.”

The Sheriff’s Department doesn’t have any leads at the time. And it’s unlikely they’ll get any, unless the public steps up with information.

“Not unless you catch them actually doing it, or you’d have to stop a car going down the road and they have the parts of the calf or the organs in their car," said Sheriff Stradley.

As for other farmers and ranchers, Bessire only had one thing to say:

“Keep your eyes and ears open boys.”

Sheriff Stradley says the person responsible would be charged with Cruelty to Animals. If you have any information on this case you are urged to call Comanche County Sheriff’s Department or the Crime Stoppers of Southwest Oklahoma at 580-355-INFO.
