School districts cancel classes over flu, absences

WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - Two Texoma school districts have cancelled classes for Friday, February first due to an outbreak of the flu and a large amount of absences.

The Seymour and Archer City Independent School Districts both announced that schools will be closed on Friday.

Seymour ISD blames the cancellation on flu and sickness, while Archer City says a high rate of absences today led to their decision.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says there are four main ways to help stop the spread of the flu.

Good hand hygiene, covering your nose and mouth, vaccinations and staying home when you feel sick are the most recommended way to keep yourself from getting, or spreading the flu.

Anyone who has had symptoms of the flu should stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever breaks. The CDC says this should not include time where the fever is lower due to medications.

The CDC is reporting widespread flu activity across much of the United States, including Texas and Oklahoma.
