LAWTON, OK (TNN) -A local family is partnering with The Oklahoma Blood Institute to host a blood drive Saturday.
Ella’s Army Blood Drive is held in honor of Ella Gorgonlione who had a liver transplant when she was nine months old. Her parents have been a part of putting these blood drives together to celebrate her life.
They like to hold blood drives because Ella had to receive blood transfusions before she had her liver transplant and they want to make sure blood is always available for anyone in need.
The blood drive will take place tomorrow in Central Mall next to Lunar Golf from 11 to 3 p.m. Recruitment Manager with OBI, Jennifer Risinger said they enjoy partnering with this family.
“They love giving back to the community, they love to encourage people to donate blood. They tell their stories, they help us with different sponsor groups to tell the story so that people realize you know they can put a face with a blood recipient so that they realize how important it is to donate blood," said Risinger.
There will be giveaways and also an area where they will watch children as parents give blood. Risinger said their blood supply is low from flu season and she encourages anyone who is feeling well to give blood.
They ask all donors to eat and drink before coming to donate blood and to bring a picture ID.
