LAWTON, OK (TNN) - What was first investigated as a suspicious death near 80th and Northwest Echo in Lawton, is now ruled a homicide. That’s according to the Lawton Police Department after they obtained the Medical Examiner’s report.
“During the investigation, we received the ME report, giving us a cause of death for the individual that was killed during the incident," said Sergeant Timothy Jenkins, with Lawton Police. “According to the ME report, it has been ruled a homicide and he was ruled dead by a gunshot wound.”
The, victim, Richard Stinson was killed on March 3. According to police reports, his wife reported his death. She was arrested March 5 on a warrant for writing a bogus check in January, and was later released on a 50-thousand dollar bond.
She has not been charged in the homicide, and no suspects have been named at this time.
Sgt. Jenkins says Stinson’s death was initially considered suspicious based on circumstances surrounding the incident.
“So talking to people, getting more stories and clarification, we wanted to make sure we had all the facts," said Sgt. Jenkins "We were also waiting for reports to come back, and putting together pieces of what we had been told to make sure it was, indeed, a homicide and nothing other than that.”
Sgt. Jenkins says they will continue their investigation by talking to witnesses. If you have any information on the shooting, you’re urged to call Crime Stoppers at 355-INFO.
