LAWTON, OK (TNN) - Members of the community showed their support for the Lawton Police Department Saturday at the annual Cops and Kids Poker Run and Car Show.
The event was held at the Comanche County Fairgrounds and is put on each year by the Department’s Community Oriented Police Division.
Nearly 40 motorcyclists participated in the poker run and more than 70 cars were entered into the car show. Also, several local businesses donated food items that officers were able to hand out to those who attended.
The proceeds from the fundraiser goes to help support community events that the police department hosts throughout the year, like the cops and kids picnic and the citizens’ police academy.
“This means everything to us. This is why we do what we do," said Sgt. Matt Dimmitt. "This is why we have a Community Oriented Police Division, is to build a bridge between the community and the police department. So, we’re able to reach out and talk and spend the whole day and enjoying time with the community, because without their support, we can’t do what we need to do to help protect them and serve them.”
This was the 10th year for LPD to hold the poker run and the 2nd annual car show.
