LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The Salvation Army boys and girls club kicked off their Adopt A Child fundraiser on Tuesday.
They hosted a dinner, featuring chili, desserts and live entertainment.
For every 300 dollars the fundraiser collects, that provides enough for one kid to have access to the programs there every day for a year.
Every day, anywhere between 60 and 70 kids go to the club after school, getting meals and homework help.
This month, the club had to raise their prices from 20 dollars a month to 15 dollars per week, so the director of the club says the fundraiser is even more important this year.
Club director Christal Durham said, “This is a way we can offer scholarships to the parents for one year for them to participate, so any contributions made goes directly towards the kids and the program. 50 to 60 percent of the kids do need it because they are from single parent homes, or live with their grandparents and need the help.
And tonight’s chili dinner was just the start. The Salvation Army will be working to raise funds through to the end of June.
