ALTUS, OK (TNN) - After three years of waiting, an Altus man is officially on the transplant list to receive a kidney and pancreas.
"You are officially on the transplant list as of today, okay, with God all things are possible."
Eric Moreno was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 10 which resulted in the failure of both his kidneys at age 24.
Moreno is almost 36 now and he and his family have worked hard to raise money for medical expenses over recent years.
He received the news of being on the transplant list in March. Moreno said he is thankful for the support he has been shown.
“It just really gives me hope in the community. I never knew that there were so many people out there that actually cared," said Moreno.
Moreno currently receives dialysis three times a week. Once he receives the transplant he’s looking forward to going back to work. He said he’s ready for change.
“How much is it going to mean to you when you can finally get this all over with?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know, I’ve been doing this for 12 years now so it’s going to be different, but I’m ready," said Moreno.
Moreno and his family are wanting to raise about $10,000 to help pay for the transplant and medications. They will be holding a fundraiser the first weekend in May.
