    Several cars crashed on the roadways this morning. Our photographer went out to three different wrecks within an hour and a half. One was off Highway 7 and 75th. A car went off the road and crashed into a ditch. Another wreck was at the intersection of Lee and 67th. That wreck required one car to be towed from the scene. The final crash was a fender bender on Lee and Sheridan. The heavy rain did cause some visibility problems while on the roads.

    Oklahoma lawmakers will gather back at the capitol today for day two of a special legislative session to address the multi-million dollar budget shortfall. It was called in response to the State Supreme court's decision to overturn the $1.50 cigarette "fee." The fee was ruled unconstitutional -- but Republican leaders say they plan to bring it back to pass it as a tax.

    The defense has begun their testimony in the trial of a man from Moore, accused of beheading a co-worker three years ago. Last week, the jury heard recordings of police interviews with the defendant, Alton Nolen, who admitted to killing Colleen Hufford and attacking Tracy Johnson. Yesterday, the defense began arguing their case, saying that Nolen should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

    Lawton Christian School is making sure their students and staff can celebrate the life of a board member who passed away last week. All students will be released at 11:30 tomorrow ahead of Robert Peter Rhea's funeral service. The service will be held at Dayspring Community Church at 2 p.m. Rhea, 67, was born in Lexington, Kentucky but grew up in Tennessee. He served in the military before making his way to Oklahoma where he met his wife Patti.

    A former Altus firefighter has been arrested for allegedly embezzling funds from the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual “Fill the Boot Campaign.” Robert Scott Tripp is accused of taking $100 to the campaign on September 2nd. He surrendered to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on Friday and was later released on $750 bond. Tripp was a 22-year veteran of the Altus Fire Department.

Jerry Lee Ashford, 62, was struck by a pickup around 8:30 p.m. while riding a bicycle. PREVIOUS STORY: Pedestrian in critical condition following Altus hit and run crash The pickup is described as a white/two-tone Ford F-150 extended cab pickup with a toolbox in the bed.
