    Aspiring forensic scientists are getting a first-hand look at how to process a crime scene. Cameron University is hosting Science Detectives Summer Camp with twenty-five 8th, 9th, and 10th graders. Today, the students found out there was a crime on campus! Someone stole a mammoth fossil and now it's up to them to find the suspect. There are six teams each with different jobs-- like DNA analysis, questioning the witness, and searching for fingerprints.

    Records show that although the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs has had millions of dollars cut from its state appropriations in the last few years, reduced services, removed critical-care equipment including electrocardiogram machines at its seven state veterans’ centers, and made plans to close the Talihina veteran’s center, the agency is spending $3 million to relocate, remodel and refurnish its headquarters.

    While donations are still rolling in, so far 23,500 pounds of food were collected in Lawton as part of the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. “Thank you for donating and impacting the lives of our neighbors,” said Steve Riggs, statewide chair of the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. “Hunger is a silent epidemic that is closer than you think. One in six Oklahomans face hunger every day.”

    The trial for Michael Bever begins June 5th and both sides are still working out the details related to his mental state. Michael Bever is charged with five counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with intent to kill. Michael Bever’s attorney says he is not guilty by reason of insanity and they have a doctor’s report that supports his case. Prosecutors would like Bever to undergo an evaluation by a state expert.

    The Lawton Police Department is still investigating after an overnight shooting left three people in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police were called to the 4400 block of Denver in Lawton around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. When they arrived, they found two men who had suffered gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid to both victims. One victim was in the driveway and the other was inside of the residence.

    Oklahoma lawmakers will be back at work today after budget talks broke down this weekend. Governor Mary Fallin will have to call a concurrent special session as a result as there is a constitutional ban on passing any revenue bills during the final week in session, and the House and Senate are scheduled to adjourn this Friday.
