Rewiring under way of chairs at bombing memorial

Associated Press - October 27, 2009 6:35 AM ET

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A project to rewire the Field of Empty Chairs at the Oklahoma City bombing memorial is now in its final phase.

The wiring of the chairs is complete and staff this week began installing concrete pipes at the base of the chairs Monday.

The $60,000 project is expected to be complete Nov. 9 - weather permitting.

New LED lights were installed last year and are expected to last 30 years.

The chairs represent each of the 168 victims killed in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
