COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla. - The Comanche County Treasurer's Office is preparing to ship out over 53,000 letters to people who have to pay taxes on personal property.

If you live in an area of Comanche County that passed a school bond, your taxes will go up. And for those living in Lawton, the tax rate has gone up slightly. That means even if your property value didn't go up, you'll still pay a little more.

"The first mailing goes out around the first of November and the second mailing goes out first of March,” said County Treasurer Barbara Burk.

This year the county treasurer has to collect more than $4-million than they collected last year. That's because the tax bases have increased. And because they have more money to collect, they even broke a record this year. They were able to print the letters in just over 24 hours.

"At this time of year the schools are getting low in their funding, the county is getting low in its funding and we need to get the money in as quick as possible for them to make their budget needs,” said Burk.

To help taxpayers, the office is changing their hours…8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

"If they want to come by on their way to work and drop off a payment they can put it in that drop box and we work that several times a day. So their payment will be processed the same day."

The treasurer is asking taxpayers to do their part and make sure all of their property is accounted for.

"If it's missed it may cause it to become delinquent if they don't catch it. We don't know what they own or anybody owns."

If you get your statement and realize that something was left off, call the treasurer's office and they will make sure you get the paperwork.
