HOUSTON (AP) - LaMarcus Aldridge scored a franchise playoff-record 46 points to lift the Portland Trail Blazers to a 122-120 victory over the Houston Rockets last night in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. Aldridge fouled out with about a minute left in overtime. Aldridge also had 18 rebounds and two blocks.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs held the Dallas Mavericks to one field goal in the final seven minutes to rally for a 90-85 victory yesterday in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. The Mavericks also went scoreless for 5½ minutes during that stretch, their lone field goal coming as time expired. Tim Duncan scored 27 points.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Josh Donaldson homered and doubled twice to back another solid start by Jesse Chavez as the Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros 4-1 yesterday to complete a series sweep. Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard added two hits apiece for the A's. Oakland has the best record in the American League despite a shaky defense that committed its AL-leading 19th error.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Chicago White Sox snapped a four-game losing streak with a 16-2 victory yesterday over the Texas Rangers. The White Sox went ahead to stay with three unearned runs off Robbie Ross in the fifth. Ronald Belisario threw two scoreless innings before Andre Rienzo and Matt Lindstrom each worked an inning.
