Oklahoma unsuccessful adoptions bill

(AP) _  Legislation that would require the listing of unsuccessful adoptions has been approved by a state house committee.

The House Human Services Committee Monday passed the measure 9-0 and sent it on to the full House for a hearing.   It has already been approved by the Senate.

The bill would require the Department of Human Services to report the number of unsuccessful adoptions of children in its custody.  It already lists successful adoptions.

Rep. Jason Murphey of Guthrie is the measure's author.  Murphy says requiring the listing of unsuccessful adoptions would bring about more transparency and accountability.

A legislative liaison for DHS, Caprice Tyner, says the agency has no problem with listing unsuccessful adoptions.  Tyner says that of 1,307 adoptions in 2007, only two were dissolved.
