Grass fire threatens homes; destroys car

NEAR MEDICINE PARK_ A day after snow fell in Texoma, a grass fire near Wichita Mountain Estates threatened homes and destroyed a car Sunday afternoon in northern Comanche County. Firefighters from Medicine Park, Paradise Valley and Wichita Mountain Estates worked for 45 minutes to get the fire out. The high winds were not in their favor.

"When we got here we went in and stopped it from on the sides and edges and protected the houses here," said Wichita Mt. Estates VFD Chief Bob Martineau.

Unfortunately the flames did reach a nearby car. They also creeped into the backyards of some of the houses, but it did not cause any major damage there.

Officials are still trying to determine how the fire started.
