Giving for a New Start

LAWTON, Ok. – 7NEWS is teaming up with the New Directions Women's Shelter to make this holiday season and the new year the best it can be for battered women and their families.

Members of our news team will be out in front of the Holiday House at Elmer Thomas Park Friday, December 18th between 5 and 7 p.m. We're asking the public for donations, Christmas presents for kids of any age, as well as everyday essentials for the shelter.

Better yet, after you help the cause, you and your family will be able to enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations from "Holiday in the Park".

Here's a list of things they need:

LATS bus passes

Paper Towels

Toilet Paper

Laundry Detergent

Toiletries such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and hair care products

Canned Goods

Cooking Oil

Baby Wipes

Baby Formula

Baby Food

Clothes, both children and women

Gift cards

For Christmas, the shelter has clients of all ages -- from 1 day old to elderly women. That includes teenage boys and girls, a group they usually don't get many presents for.

The numbers for the New Directions Women's Shelter are up significantly this year from last year. They expect those numbers to continue to increase throughout the holidays. Anything our viewers can do to help the cause will be greatly appreciated!
