Cameron honors WWII hero

Lawton_A Cameron alumnus who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country was honored on campus today.

Family members of Staff Sergeant George D. Keathley joined Cameron President Cindy Ross and Major General David Halverson, Fort Sill Commander, for the renaming of the Military Science Department, which will now bear Keathley's name.

"It just further developed the bond of leadership between not only Fort Sill and Cameron, but to have the Keathley family here really made it special," said Major Rod Boles, CU Professor of Military Science.

Keathley was killed in battle in 1944 and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions that day.

The George D. Keathley Department of Military Science is home to Cameron's ROTC program which was recently named one of the top units in the nation.
