New regulations on reporting drug overdoses

Oklahoma City_State narcotics officials are now required to report the number of drug overdoses each year.  The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics requested the bill that Governor Brad Henry signed into law Friday.

It will help them keep track of both fatal and non-fatal drug overdoses.

The agency launched an initiative earlier this year to combat the abuse of prescription drugs. Officials say since 2001, there has been a 78 percent increase in the number of overdose deaths.
