FORT SILL, Okla.-Fort Sill has the Polo Field all set up for the biggest concert of the year. It's the annual 4th of July weekend show. This year's headliner is Oklahoma native and well-known armed forces supporter, Toby Keith. He's exactly the reason officials predict Friday will be a sold-out crowd, even though it is at the wide-open Polo Field. They're putting 12,500 tickets on sale, and they're almost gone, which would make it the biggest-selling concert ever on post.
Toby Keith will light up the stage and rock the field Friday night. Fort Sill said this one night of fun keeps MWR going all year long.
"If we're able to have a big venue and make a big profit on an event like a Toby Keith concert, we can offer smaller events throughout the year: bring in comics, bring in other types of musical performers, rock ‘n' roll, soul, jazz, R & B, stuff like that," said Colonel Raymond Lacey.
"This is going to be the best show that we've seen here at Fort Sill. We've already exceeded ticket sales in the past. We fully expect to sell out. We have a full capacity of 12,500 and we fully expect to see 12,500 Toby Keith fans on the field," said MWR's Brenda Spencer-Ragland.
With so many fans comes the issue of parking. Fort Sill's asking you to carpool and to park at Gate 2, which will be open just for the concert.
"That's a change from previous years where we've had other parking spots on the installation and then we bused folks in. They're will be other parking spots on the installation, but we strongly encourage folks to go into Gate 2 and park and walk into the venue," said Lacey.
You can park as early as 1 P.M. Friday. The concert gates will open at 6 o'clock. The opening act starts at 7 P.M. Toby Keith will take the stage around 9 P.M. There are still a few tickets left. They're $30 beforehand or $35 at the gate, but Fort Sill officials said they doubt there will be any tickets left to sell at the gate. They recommend getting them ahead of time at Adventure Travel.
A twelve-minute fireworks display will immediately follow the concert. Officials recommend parking near the Fort Sill Credit Union on Fort Sill Boulevard if you're just hoping to catch the fireworks.
