LAKE LAWTONKA - About 10,000 fish floated to the top of Lake Lawtonka Wednesday. City of Lawton officials say there were three separate events of upwelling where the warm water at the bottom of the lake, particularly near the dam, raised to the surface.
When that happened, it burst the swimming bladders of thousands of fish. The fish were mostly drum and weren't dead, but could no longer swim.
City of Lawton officials picked up the fish and buried them. They say the upwellings happen about once a year and often go on for about ten days.
