Lawsuit filed against suspected drunk driver in Lawton

The family of a Lawton woman who was hit by a car and killed in February has filed a civil lawsuit against the woman accused of hitting her.

Comanche County court records show Katherine Sanders' father, Reggie Sanders, filed the lawsuit against Tenile Akoneto. The suit claims auto negligence and seeks more than $10,000 dollars in civil relief.

Akoneto also faces criminal charges.  Prosecutors charged her with manslaughter and leaving the scene of fatality and injury accidents.

Investigators say Akoneto was driving drunk when she hit Sanders and Terri Roberts-Streeter in west Lawton.

There was a small structure fire on Rhoades Road in Meers today. The home was evacuated. Fire officials with the Medicine Park Fire Department say that there was enough damage to upper part of the home that it may be a total loss. They said the homeowner’s insurance will determine the severity but, as of right now, the home is not livable. The fire was electrical in nature but an investigation is still ongoing.
