Mother's Day shoppers boost local businesses

Undated_We must really love our mothers! Behind Christmas, it's the second largest consumer spending holiday in the United States.

The National Retail Federation predicts Mother's Day sales this year will reach $16 billion, and Lawton is seeing some of that revenue.

From jewelry, to chocolate, to flowers, people tend to fork over a lot of money to shower mom with gifts.

"You can't help but bring love to the table and to the family today," said Larry Massad, local gift shop owner.

The National Retail Federation expects people to spend, on average, $140 on mom this year.
