Local Memorial Day ceremonies planned

Undated_There are several chances for you to get out Monday, and pay tribute to our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

There are two services in our area at 10 am. One is at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin.

The other is at Altus Air Force Base at the Wings of Freedom Park. At that ceremony, they will also give special recognition of those crewmembers of the C-141 Starlifter aircraft who died on duty. That plane was stationed in Altus from 1967 until 2001.

Fort Sill will hold its own ceremony at 11:45am in front of McNair Hall.

Lawton's Sunset Gardens cemetery will hold a ceremony at 2pm.

Monday night, the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs' Freedom Banquet will feature Edwin Meese, the former U. S. Attorney General under President Reagan at 7pm at the Patriot Club on Fort Sill.
