OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin is asking the White House for a major disaster declaration for seven counties affected by tornadoes last week.
The tornadoes killed 10 people and left more than 1,000 homes and businesses damaged or destroyed.
Fallin's request for individual assistance includes Caddo, Canadian, Delaware, Grady, Kingfisher, Logan and McClain counties. She says other counties could be added to the request as additional damage assessments are completed.
If the request is approved, residents in the seven counties who suffered uninsured storm-related damage would be eligible for assistance for housing repairs or temporary housing, disaster unemployment assistance and U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans.
Those residents also would be eligible for grants for serious needs and necessary disaster expenses not covered by other programs.
