DUNCAN, Okla - Hundreds of Duncan residents thought Erin Brockovich had come to the Simmons center tonight to simply answer general questions about their contaminated well water.
But instead she and a team of attorneys and environmentalists dropped a bombshell when they told citizens some of them were drinking water from the largest perchlorate contamination they had ever tested for in the country.
They told citizens whose water was contaminated, and even those who weren't sure yet to avoid consuming the water at all costs.
They had plenty of questions Erin Brockovich was more than happy to answer.
"They should be concerned obviously we know there's a contamination we aren't just guessing," Brockovich said, "it's a fact."
A fact that Brockovich says Halliburton has already admitted responsibility for and now needs to take action.
"Halliburton doesn't have the right when they caused a contamination to hide it conceal it or drag their feet to responding to those people's needs," Brockovich said.
One man who says his water was extremely contaminated says he doesn't feel like Halliburton has stepped up.
"We don't know what is going on for the most we just know what they told us and it seems to be a bigger deal than what they're telling us."
Brockovich says that's the wrong way to handle their mistake.
"Halliburton has to co-exist with this community and the community too, they want jobs they don't want them to go away but they don't want to be poisoned either."
