Rep. T.W. Shannon makes history as Speaker-Designate

Undated_Lawton could soon be home to the Oklahoma Speaker of the House.  House Republicans have selected Lawton Representative T.W.  Shannon to be speaker-designate.

The vote paves the way for him to become the first African-American House Speaker in state history.

From what we could determine, he also would be the first ever from Lawton.

The Republican caucus picked Shannon over representative

Jeff Hickman and Representative

Mike Reynolds during a closed-door meeting at the State Capitol today.

Hickman is the Speaker pro tem under current House Speaker Kris Steele.

He still must be elected by the Republican caucus after the 2012 elections —but that vote is typically considered a formality.
