UPDATE: Highway 7 traffic re-routed for ongoing construction

Comanche County_If you travel along State Highway 7, you'll be forced to slow down after workers re-routed traffic between Trail Road and Pumpkin Center Monday.

Now, it's only one lane, each way, and all traffic is on the westbound side of the divided highway.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says completion isn't expected for another year, but says the changes are necessary.

"We're an agricultural state. We're an oil and gas state and we depend on out roads to get our products to market and that's what you see here. You look at the highway, the traffic on Highway 7, with the oil fields in Stephens County, that's what we do at ODOT is link those markets together," said Transportation Commissioner Brad Burgess.

The south side will be raised to be level with the north side and barriers will be added to increase safety for drivers.
