Dog fanciers compete at Coliseum

Lawton_Hundreds of well-groomed, four-legged friends and their masters headed to the Great plains Coliseum to compete in the 63rd Annual Dog Fanciers American Kennel Club Dog Show this weekend.

Over 400 dogs from around the country came to the two-day event, competing for best in show.

Officials say winning the title takes a lot of hard work, but can be done with a little guidance.

"Get a mentor. That's how I got started. That's how most people get started. They find a mentor in a breed they are interested in and from there the rest is history," said organizer Cindy Zelbst.

But if showing one of these dogs is not for you, officials say if you're a dog lover, a show like this is one you won't want to miss.

"Just come out and see the dogs. Lots of great dogs. We want everyone to come out and cheer on their favorite dog," Zelbst said.

If you missed this year's dog show, you'll have to wait another year to check out the competition.
