Most charter amendments approved, school bonds pass

LAWTON, Okla. – Voters in Lawton approved all but one of the amendments to the city charter.  Bond issues in Duncan, Velma-Alma, Central High and Chattanooga all passed.

The one that failed, Proposition 6, would have increased the value of surplus property the city can sell without public approval or a special ordinance from $50,000 to $250,000.

    The Lawton chapter of the Future Farmers of America held a special meeting to raise funds and meet with the community Tuesday evening. It was a watermelon social and silent auction. The event featured all-you-can-eat watermelon and hot dogs. There were also fun contests, like seed spitting and a race to see who could eat a melon the fastest. After the social the chapter held its silent auction, selling dozens of items donated from various local businesses.
