West Palm Beach, FL_A remarkable reunion Friday night in Florida, between a mother and a toddler from Waurika. Amanda Edwards and Aubrey Goodson had been apart for two weeks, since the child's father, Brad, failed to bring her back from a custody visit.
Friday morning, Lisa DeLong walked into the police department in West Palm Beach with her.
"I don't want to think about what could have happened. I'm just glad what happened."
She said Brad and Aubrey had started renting a room from her last Thursday, but under different names. She said she became suspicious about the child's lack of clothes and toys. Her suspicions were confirmed when he slipped up and used their real names. She used those names in a computer search and Friday morning, saw Aubrey's picture on a site for missing children. That's when she came up with a plan to get her away from Brad.
"I said, 'Get her ready, and I'll take them to the museum.' So, he brought her out, and loaded her up in the car, and I took off on the way that would take me to the museum, and then I doubled back and came here (to the police station)."
She said Brad had given her a believable story-- that Aubrey's mom had been deported several months ago, and that he had been taking care of her since them. He said he had moved to Florida so Aubrey's grandparents could help take care of her.
Friday night, in Florida, Aubrey's mother, Amanda said she was thankful for DeLong's help, and glad to have her baby back, after fearing the worst from this morning's call.
"About 5 o'clock this morning, I startled myself because I thought I heard her voice, and when I woke up, she wasn't there. So, when the call came in this morning from the detectives, my heart pretty much sunk."
Although the news of Aubrey's recovery was good, Brad Goodson is still on the loose, though. He was able to get away from police when he took off running after a brief car chase. The manhunt continues in Florida.
