Early-morning shooting leaves man in hospital

Lawton_ Police have not released the name of a man who was shot in the face early Friday morning in a south Lawton neighborhood.  he was flown to Oklahoma City for surgery.

Police say the shooting happened on the streets near SW 8th and Monroe, but the victim taken to the 1400 block of Bishop where emergency responders were called.

No arrests have been made but Lawton Police Captain Craig Akard said investigators have talked to the shooter, who says he was the actual victim. He said he thought he was about to be robbed.

"He noticed someone come up to the side of his car, who tried to open his door.  He looked up and didn't recognize him so he fired some rounds through his window," said Captain Akard.

Police are waiting for the victim to recover so they can interview him and get his side of the story.
