LAWTON, Okla. – Lawton police are investigating an afternoon shooting on the 2500 block of SW "H" Ave. that sent one man to the hospital.
Police found out about the shooting after medical staff at Comanche County Memorial Hospital told them a man with a gunshot wound had been brought in around 3:30 p.m. Police then learned the shooting happened just a few minutes earlier.
Because it is still so early in the investigation, 7News has not been able to speak with police because they are still busy collecting evidence and talking to what looked like several witnesses.
We also do not know the condition of the victim or whether or not any arrests have been made. However, we were able to talk to one of those witnesses who said she saw it all.
Within minutes of the shooting, the crime scene was swarming with police officers taping it off and questioning witnesses like Marie Hill.
"I was in my back bedroom cleaning my room and I heard a lot of yelling and screaming and I thought ‘Wow! Back here I don't usually hear anything,'" said Hill.
That is when Hill says she went to check things out.
"It got louder and louder and I looked out the front window and it was right across the street right over here."
Hill says she could not believe what she was witnessing.
"As soon as I got to the window and I looked out, I saw the man, he had a gun and he pointed it straight out and he shot like four or five times!"
Hill says the shooter was firing at a car full of people.
"I heard the glass shatter and it squealed off of the street and I crouched down and grabbed the phone, dialed 911 and I was telling them about what was going on and I know exactly who shot that gun."
7News arrived on the scene moments after the shooting and saw police drive off with several different people. At this time we do not know if they were witnesses or suspects.
According to witnesses, the victim is a white man in his early to mid-thirties. Count on 7News to keep you updated with new details as the story develops.
