HS playoffs boost Coliseum revenue

Lawton_With the loss of Lawton-Fort sill's professional basketball team, the Cavalry, also came a loss of revenue for the Great Plains Coliseum. Now, the Coliseum is trying to pick up the slack from those lost games, and this weekend's high school playoff are really helping.

"The Cavalry was here for four years and they're a team that will be very hard to replace, but they were good for the Coliseum while it was here. Now that the Cavalry is gone, we'll take tournaments like this, the OSSAA, to help replace them and continue to bring entertainment into Lawton," said Philip Humble, Executive Director of the Great Plains Coliseum.

Humble says having the Cavalry in Lawton forced major updates to the Coliseum which have made it a destination spot for southwest Oklahoma.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
