Tillman County rounds up drug suspects over weekend

Posted: Updated:

TILLMAN COUNTY_Eight suspected drug dealers are off the streets and behind bars in Tillman County after a weekend drug bust.

Tillman County Sheriff Bobby Whittington said his deputies along with Frederick Police officers and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics carried out search warrants at several homes on Saturday.

The Sheriff said hopefully this weekend's drug sweep will put a major dent in the sale and use of illegal drugs there.

"Some were repeat offenders, some we've seen before basically street level dealers out there on the street actively engaged in selling narcotics," Whittington said.

Sheriff Whittington said he led a seven month investigation on them before making his move this weekend. According to him, authorities have collected enough evidence over those months to put them away for a while.

Many of those busted over the weekend lived and sold in Grandfield,

Sheriff Whittington said one of the suspects admitted to targeting  students at Grandfield high school.

"It feels good, anytime we can take a drug dealer off the street is good," he said.

Whittington said drug use is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken in his area before it becomes a larger problem.

"We're just like any other county. We've got our fair share of all the crimes that goes on, it's just not at the magnitude of larger population areas. We do have drug activity here and we're going to do everything we can to stop it."

Sheriff Whittington said there are still two more individuals who are living in the Wichita Falls area they are still looking for who are connected with this case.
