140,000 Ford Focus cars recalled due to windshield wiper defect

Posted: Updated:

(AP) - Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 140,000 Focus compact cars because of a windshield wiper defect.

Federal safety regulators say a seal in the wiper motor wiring could be missing from those vehicles.  Water can get inside and cause the wiper to stop working, increasing the risk of a crash.

The automaker says there haven't been any crashes or injuries from the problem.

The recalled cars were built from Aug. 1, 2010 through Oct. 18, 2011. Ford dealers will clean and seal the wiring free of charge.  The company expects the repairs to begin in late May.
