UPDATE: Charles Dyer found guilty of child sex assault

Duncan_A Stephens County jury returned guilty verdict in the child sex assault trial of Charles Dyer in Duncan Thursday night.

The jury reached their decision after deliberating for about four hours. Dyer had testified Thursday in his own defense, and became emotional on the stand. He screamed that he had never touched his young accuser or had sex with her. Dyer showed no emotion when the verdict was read, but members of his family and the victim's family broke down in tears. The girl's mother shared her reaction to the verdict.

"Just closure. Just move on with our lives. She doesn't ever have to get on the stand again, look at his face, talk about it, anything. She gets to be a little girl now."

The jury recommended a 30-year sentence. This was the third time prosecutors had tried the case after the two previous attempts ended in mistrials, one because of a hung jury.
