Skout shuts down service over attacks

Posted: Updated:

"I thought we were doing a lot, but obviously we have to do better. This is a five-alarm fire. The entire company is re-evaluating everything it's doing," said Scott Weiss a partner at one of Skout's major investors.

The flirting app Skout is suspending its service for minors indefinitely after three separate men were arrested in alleged attacks on young people met through the service.

The company behind Skout set up a service specifically for underage teens with added safeguards after discovering many were already using the regular version of the app.

Company officials say they are shocked and disgusted by the attacks.

"One case is too many. When you have three, it looks like a pattern. This is my worst fear," said Christian Wikland, Skout founder.

Wikland adds the service for minors will not be restored until experts are able to find ways to more accurately ensure minors are better protected
