CLINTON, Okla. (AP) -
Authorities say a Thomas man has died after he was shot in the face by a
police officer when he allegedly threatened the officer with a wrench
outside the Clinton Police Department.
The Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation says 34-year-old Benjamin Whiteshield died at a Clinton
hospital following the shooting early Wednesday.
The officer's name was not released.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica
Brown says Whiteshield was taken to the police department by relatives
who said he was acting delusional. Brown says when Whiteshield arrived
he took a wrench from the car and was found shortly afterward by an
officer on the north side of the department where he allegedly
threatened the officer and was shot.
The officer has been placed on paid leave while the OSBI investigates the shooting.
