Posted: Updated:

COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla_People celebrating the 4th of July by shooting fireworks up into the night sky kept firefighters across southwest Oklahoma busy Wednesday night.

Once the sun went down and the fireworks started going up volunteers from local fire departments went to work. Comanche County Emergency Management Director Clint Wagstaff said there were over 150 fires just in Comanche County.

Multiple fires sparked in Cache causing Wagstaff and the Cache Fire Department to call for reinforcements from multiple agencies including Fort Sill and Geronimo.

One Lawton fire official told 7News it was like a "war zone" as crews were constantly dispatched for over four hours to fight fires caused by fireworks.

Officials said at least 5 structures were damaged including a home in Geronimo. None were destroyed.
