Comanche County now officially in a burn ban

Posted: Updated:

COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla_Comanche County Commissioners have officially placed the county in a burn ban. The decision came this morning at the weekly commissioners meeting at the courthouse in Lawton.

The ban means that residents may not do any kind of outdoor burning. Grilling is allowed but the grill must be set up on a non-flammable surface measuring 10 feet by 10 feet and also be 5 feet from anything which may catch fire.

Those who are caught in violation of the burn ban can face a $500 fine and/or up to one-year in jail.

Tillman County is the only other southwest Oklahoma county listed on the state forestry services website as being under a burn ban.

In all, 20 counties are under burn bans statewide.

In North Texas, six Texoma counties are under a burn ban also. Those include Baylor, Cottle, Knox, Throckmorton, Wilbarger and Young.
